TeliaSonera's new frequencies in Norway pave the way for 4G expansion

As previously announced on December 6, TeliaSonera is investing in new 4G frequencies in the 800 MHz band in Norway. Together with extended licenses in the 900 MHz band and more 4G frequencies in the 1,800 MHz band, it enables TeliaSonera's ambition to offer customers high-speed internet throughout the country. TeliaSonera pays NOK 626.7 million.

The licenses in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, and 1,800 MHz bands are valid for 20 years from January 1, 2014 at a cost of NOK 626.7 million. With the acquired licenses comes a requirement to offer mobile high-speed internet to 98 percent of the population within five years. Today, TeliaSonera's 4G coverage reaches approximately 50 percent of the Norwegian population (LTE, 1,800 MHz and 2,600 MHz bands), and 3G coverage to approximately 85 percent.
