Thank you Paper Province!

Many thanks to Paper Province with Sandra and the board who gave us the confidence to complement and become your important accounting, payroll and project finance function. A trust we attach great importance to building long-term.

Very important business

The fact that Paper Province is a world-leading cluster in the forest-based bioeconomy naturally makes our mission as an economic department even more trustworthy. And important! The business is owned and run by almost 130 member companies, which rightly demand that the money spent really has a direct and indirect effect, both in the short and longer term, for the member companies.

Examples of member companies include ABB, Billerud, Karlstad Energi, Moelven, Ragnsells, Somas, Sveaskog, Valmet and many more that are not as large.

Strategic business areas

Paper Province is based on 4 strategic areas: Innovation and development, Competence supply, Internationalisation and Regional power gathering. All areas are then linked to Agenda 2030 with its global goals where the primary sub-goals are:

  • Decent work and economic growth

  • Sustainable industry, innovations and infrastructure and

  • Sustainable consumption and production

The fourth goal, Gender Equality, acts as a form of horizontal goal and permeates all activities.

The mission of the finance function

Now that Nya Ekonomikompetens is taking over, operating and developing most of Paper Province’s accounting, payroll and project finances, the initial focus has been on reviewing and immediately implementing a number of different improvement initiatives together with Sandra and the Board. The aim is to increase the precision of monitoring and analysis, to develop project accounting and to cut some time in reporting to the CEO and Board.

In parallel, of course, it has also been a matter of maintaining the regular financial processes and ensuring that there is consistency and traceability in these. In the future, continuous improvement work will take place in parallel with dialogue with the management of Paper Province.

The assignment within Payroll & HR Service

The assignment for Paper Province also includes Payroll Service and HR services. Setting up the payroll service is usually quite easy for New Economic Expertise’s staff. At the same time, it is also important to immediately check that everything is also in line with the various agreements that exist. If it does not, things must be corrected. The area of payroll is too important not to have a correct implementation.

When it comes to HR service, it is built up based on the needs of the customer. Often the customer already has various elements of HR activities and then Nya Ekonomikompetens complements areas that are important but may not have been mastered or had expertise in before.

Long-term view

In order to get a finance function that acts proactively from the start, Nya Ekonomikompetens uses prepared annual wheels. Annual cycles that can then be supplemented and adapted to the customer’s business. The same applies to Payroll & HR Service. In both cases, the annual wheels create a natural link between the accounting and what has actually already happened, towards proactivity and profitability management in the business.

The goal is, of course, to be able to climb the ‘competence ladder’ together with the customer in order to gradually contribute more and more to the positive development of the business as an accounting department.

The challenge is not really to develop and present different tools and methodologies in the management and control of the economy. The challenge lies in adapting both ourselves and our working methods, in this case, to Paper Province. In order for the business to get as much benefit as possible from the finance function. This is something we at Nya Ekonomikompetens are good at and we really look forward to the continued cooperation!

We would also like to take the opportunity to wish Sandra good luck now with the new challenge that awaits after the turn of the year!
