In 2014, Region Värmland produced Schyst – a handbook for equal communication. The material has now been updated and expanded into a digital knowledge bank through Attraktionskraft Värmland.
One of the new features of the platform is that it can help companies and organisations to create a fair working environment. This means, for example, that accessible premises and appropriate workwear are just as important as an inclusive meeting culture and language that everyone feels comfortable with.
– Schyst.se is a digital knowledge bank for those who want to become more aware of their own preconceptions, the perspectives of others and the equal value of all. The content helps you, among other things, to communicate equally and inclusively. In the workplace, in your free time and at home,” says Katarina Nordmark, project manager for Region Värmland in Attraktionskraft Värmland.
Become a more attractive employer and secure skills
Organisations that actively work with inclusion, diversity and gender equality are 47% more likely to retain employees, according to a survey by McKinsey & Company.
– The strength of Attraktionskraft Värmland is that many of us are committed to one of our greatest common challenges, namely skills supply. We have learnt together through training and seminars where we have met with our different perspectives and challenges. Through the involvement of us clusters, Region Värmland and our business community, we have begun to move forward and issues such as inclusion, diversity and gender equality now have a given place in the joint work to create an attractive Värmland,” says Elin Appel, project manager, Paper Province.
Mapping behind the results
In 2023, the project conducted a survey that showed that the businesses in Värmland have the will to pursue gender equality work but that they lacked tools and training.
– An important goal of updating schyst.se has therefore been to create a user-friendly website where a broad target group can find inspiration, knowledge and concrete material linked to gender equality and inclusion,” says Emma Jakobsson, project manager, Compare.
