Hello there Anders Solberg, Innovation Manager at Compare!

You were recently in Brussels and visited the AI Office - why?

– I was there to participate in a networking event organised by the European Commission for European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH). Compare is part of two such hubs through the MIGHTY project. In that project, we support companies in Värmland and the rest of Sweden with digitalisation, especially in AI, cybersecurity and high-performance computing.

– An important issue at the meeting was the AI Act, the EU’s new legislation that will regulate the use of AI. The AI Act may be perceived as restrictive, but according to the European Commission, only a small proportion of services developed in Europe need independent scrutiny. The majority are not affected at all, for some it probably means they need to be transparent that the service is based on AI. We then discussed how companies can prepare and what opportunities exist within the regulatory framework.

How can Compare and the MIGHTY project help companies?

– We’re here to guide businesses and organisations through these kinds of changes. With the AI Act and other regulations on the way, it can be difficult to know how you’ll be affected – and that’s where we come in.

– Part of MIGHTY involves supporting businesses to understand the legislation, identify business opportunities and implement AI solutions in a sustainable way. Our role is to help SMEs use AI as a strength, not see it as a barrier.

Why is this important for Värmland?

– For the region to continue to grow and be competitive, we need to capitalise on the opportunities of AI. With Compare as part of the European Innovation Hubs, we can help companies find the right tools and create confidence in their digital development.
